colourpop first impressions

Hello!

I’m going to launch right into this post, as it’s a long one.

Colourpop. The name is zingy, fun to say, and screams at you from far away. The indie makeup brand has gathered a cult following due to its bouncy powder eye shadows and highlighters and Kylie-esque matte lipsticks.

Intrigued by the fact that I could get a Lip Kit dupe for 6 dollars, I traversed the Colourpop website and found a few interesting products.

A week and a half later, a glittery logo-emblazoned package arrived for me in the mailbox. It even came a day earlier than expected. That doesn’t seem like much, but it does add up immensely when you are a beauty junkie like mwah.

My order consisted of (from left to right) one Super Shock Cheek highlighter (Dream Catcher), a Crème Gel Liner (Swerve), an Ultra-Matte Lip (Bianca), and an Ultra-Satin lip (Botanical). My search for poppy, beautiful colours ended with Colourpop.

I’m going to break down each and every one of the things I bought.

HIGHLIGHTER: This highlighter is a golden coppery shade that looks AMAZING and brings out a lot of colour upon my pale, pale skin. It hits the light just right and isn’t too sparkly. The consistency is strange, but absolutely divine. It’s bouncy. Like, literally bouncy. While it is a powder, it transfers like a cream. It’s best applied using your fingers, and then blending out with a synthetic brush. Absolutely beautiful.

LINER: This liner is a basic black, but I’d been looking for something like it for a while. It’s perfect for drawing cat eyes or tightlining, and works very well. It’s not unlike some other liners I’ve tried, but it glides on smoother than others.

ULTRA MATTE: It’s almost an exact dupe for the brown Kylie Lip Kit. You must be quick about putting in on, though. It’ll dry faster than you can say “Colourpop”. The colour is darker than pictured on the website, and is more brown than purple, but still works with my tone. Pleasantly surprised by the actual colour.

ULTRA SATIN: This colour also differs a bit from the website. It’s more orange than pink in real life, but very beautiful and gives a good colour payoff. It is also matte, but more of a velvety finish and not as heavy.

It’s recommended you exfoliate and be sure to moisturize your lips before and after using the lipsticks.

Appreciate my swatches, because These. Don’t. Come. Off. At. All.

At all.

They’re stuck to your lips like tar, and though they stay put and look amazing, one mistake is very hard to remove.

Other than that, the lip products are amazing as are the others. I’m looking forward to grabbing up some more products soon!

As far as customer service is concerned, Colourpop really loves their customers. Shipping takes a LONG time, though, and you can’t expect your items until about a week later. However, the products were packaged very well with care, and it was shipped speedily from Los Angeles.

I ordered May 2nd, it shipped May 10th, and arrived May 12th. That was a total of just 11 days, so not that shabby! I’m so excited to use these products. They’re very cheap, but GREAT quality.

You can also get 5 dollars off your order by signing up through email! Easy, right?

Ever heard of Colourpop?

kate moss for rimmel london lipstick in 107 | review

Happy Halloween! I hope you all have a great night and stay safe. I’ll post pictures of my costume tomorrow morning. 🙂

♫ I caved, I caved, I really really caved. ♫

I was scoping around Missamrunaway’s awesome blog a few days ago and found her review on the Lasting Finish by Kate Moss for Rimmel London lipstick in 107, an amazing wine/berry shade. (that was a mounthful, bleh) Let me just say, it looked beautiful on her and I had to buy it. We have the same paler-than-pale skin tone, so she’s my guinea pig when it comes to lip products. Fast-forward to now, as I’m writing this, I have that colour on my lips! Eee!

IMG_2422IMG_2423

THE PACKAGING:

I really love the packaging! I am a very clumsy and non-observant person, so I sometimes mistake my nude lipstick for my berry because of the packaging. This one is a vibrant red and has Kate Moss’ signature on it, which I loveeeee. Overall the packaging is great.

THE COLOUR:

(My mother has painted a pumpkin. I love pumpkins. I took a picture of the lipstick, with the pumpkin.)

The colour is called 107. It’s a deep, vibrant berry shade and looks AMAZING. May I also say, it smells like strawberries or melon or something awesome. The lipstick goes great with my skin tone (pale aka ghost) and can be layered for an intense or subtle look.

THE APPLICATION:

(My pale ghost hand and my trying-to-be-photogenic smirk. by Mali)

I love this lipstick! It’s vivid, rich, and smooth. It has a satiny finish and doesn’t dry out my lips that much. It could be more moisturizing, but its colour makes up for it. Love it.

THE VERDICT:

This lipstick is gold, and has made its way to my a-list beauty products list. It is very vivid and is a perfect autumnal shade. I will certainly be wearing this a lot this autumn and winter.

maybelline expert wear eyeshadow | review

Hey guys! Hope you all are doing well. 🙂

I have been using the same eyeshadow for a while, and it’s discontinued now, so I needed a new one. After a bit of browsing, I decided to buy the Maybelline Expert Wear Eyeshadow. It’s really inexpensive, and I’ve had a great run with Maybelline products (you can see my concealer review HERE) so far. There are a lot of colours to choose from as well.

IMG_2087IMG_2086

I bought the shade Made in Mocha, a matte taupe/brown that compliments blue eyes and is a great natural shade. It came in a small rectangular package with a clear top so you can see into the pan, which is great! It also comes with an applicator (I use a brush) that picks up the shadow really well and I may use it. The package is easy to open and very well laid out.

IMG_2095IMG_2119

Both, from left to right: with primer, without primer.

As you can see it’s enhanced greatly with primer, though I like it more without for a more natural look. Overall it’s a nice soft colour, and if I needed a more bold look (maybe a brown smoky eye?) I’d use primer.

As far as application is concerned, it seemed to cumulate in one area and was a bit difficult to spread out. The formula is great, though, and has stayed on without creasing for a while! I really love it.

GOOD:

~Very vivid

~Great packaging

~Beautiful colour

BAD:

~A bit difficult to apply

THE VERDICT:

With more pros than cons and at a very good price range (3.79 USD, 3.38 EUR), it’s worth it! I would buy it again.

book review: the selection series by kiera cass

Hello lovely people! I am so sorry I haven’t been posting and sort of disappeared. I’m going to try harder to keep up since I have 100 followers now! ;D

My awesome friend was listing off books I should read the other day. I haven’t really read much in the past few months, but I wanted to start it up again. She listed for a while until she got to one book series: The Selection by Kiera Cass. My friend was literally wringing her hands and jumping up and down, fangirling about how this series was SO GOOD.

Reluctantly, I decided to pick one up and start reading. Little did I know, I was in for a day of whizzing through pages for hours on end.

This book. THIS BOOK!

It was amazing. Page after page was filled with whirlwind romance, tough choices, inside jokes, cat-fights, and more.

The Selection by Kiera Cass is narrated by the main character, America Singer. Living in the country of Illea (The United States after 4 world wars) and closely guarded by a monarchy, the citizens are all part of a caste. America, a Five on the caste scale, sometimes goes hungry and can only sing and play instruments. During the night, America sneaks out to meet her long-time boyfriend, Aspen Leger.

When a letter arrives in the post, America realizes she’s been asked to participate in The Selection, a fierce competition between 35 girls to win Prince Maxon’s heart and become princess. America reluctantly fills out the form, sends it in, and waits. One day she’s chosen.

Living a life at the palace isn’t easy. It’s nothing like home, where pants and tunics suffice, but instead flowery dresses and skirts are donned every morning. Though America tries to stay loyal to Aspen, she feels her relationship dwindling. Could she really find love with Prince Maxon?

The Selection is Young Adult, though I think most of my readers are eligible to read this book. It does contain mild violence in the second and third book, as well as suggestive content and a little bit of romance. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who loves princesses, romance, and a more grown-up fairy tale. There are a total of four full-length books, The Selection, The Elite, The One (all told by America), and The Heir (told by another girl). There are also some novellas told in the POV of other characters such as Prince Maxon, Aspen Leger, Queen Amberly, and Marlee (another girl).

If you read this book, what did you think about it?

make up for ever lipstick review

Hi lovelies! ♥ Today I have a review for all of you. As I said in the previous post, I am leaving for the beach in beautiful South Carolina tomorrow, so posts will be short if I post at all.

IMG_1015

Believe it or not, but I don’t like lipstick that much. I prefer a stain or crayon instead of a stick. However, this amazing little package of wonderful has changed my mind about lipstick.

I love it now.

IMG_1019

The shade is 43, a deep blue-red colour. When I say red, I mean Taylor Swift red, people. I have very fair skin so the lipsticks I can use are limited, as some are too bright and stand out too much. This shade is actually quite nice with my blue eyes. I paired it with a subtle cat eye (I wrote a post about it here) that enhanced my eyes.

IMG_1018

It’s my first time trying Make Up For Ever, a brand that Sephora offers. For first impressions, I LOVED this lipstick. After prepping my lips a few minutes before with EOS lip balm (which is extraordinary as well), I applied the lipstick. It went on REALLY smooth, was very vivid, and was just the right shade of red.

IMG_1026IMG_1021

Even after drinking some water the lipstick stayed on. I love this colour, the brand, and pretty much everything about it. I will be buying from Make Up For Ever again.

maybelline cover stick concealer review

Hello everyone! Today I come to you with a review.

Many of you know Maybelline. It’s a pretty popular brand, and after asking around I decided to buy the Cover Stick Concealer, since I needed some new concealer. I really like it and think I’ll be using it a lot. However, I must warn you that it’s much better with foundation- but using it alone for a no makeup look works too.

IMG_0441IMG_0442

The packaging is good, it’s sort of like lipstick, you just twist it up. I got the yellow one, which is good for dark circles but also great for covering blemishes. There’s a green one that’s more redness-oriented, but this one does fine for me.

IMG_0447

I get really bad chin acne sometimes, and today was just one of those days. This is before I put on the concealer.

IMG_0448

It went on really smooth and is super easy to apply. It surprisingly went with my skin tone. Best of all? It’s waterproof and easily blendable.

IMG_0449

Now keep in mind that this is without foundation. With a good foundation, it would cover better. It did lessen the redness quite a bit and blended really well. I did have to use two thin coats to completely conceal the big red one (you can’t see it anymore) but otherwise turned out fine.

I really like this concealer, and knowing that it’s waterproof is even better. I will be using it again in the future.

Pros

Takes away lots of the redness.

Is waterproof.

Blends easily.

Very smooth and does not cake.

Cons

Takes two coats to cover blemishes.

Doesn’t do as well without foundation.

I give it…

♥♥♥♥♥ 4/5 Hearts

I recommend this concealer to anyone with dark circles (I don’t have much) or slight acne!

mark. eye primer review

image

Hello! Today I am going to be reviewing the Please Hold eye primer by mark. If you are not informed, mark. is the sister brand of Avon, a cosmetics service like Mary Kay. I have a relative living in the UK who ships products to me. The most recent thing I got was this eye primer, which can also be used as a concealer for puffiness and dark circles.

It goes on really smooth, and when you put on shadow it does not crease, which is a plus. However, both shades are a bit dark for my skin tone. I have to blend it in a lot.

pros

Very smooth, no creases.

Used as concealer and works very well!

cons

Doesn’t quite match my skin tone, however it is alright if I blend it.

4/5 stars.

bad blood music video review

Hey!

So the Billboard Music Awards just premiered, and the opening performance was the release of the music video for Taylor Swift’s Bad Blood. I am a HUGE fan of Taylor, and so this was highly anticipated.

The video starts out with Catastrophe (Taylor Swift) and Arsyn (Selena Gomez). The two best friends appear to be battling some businessmen. The song starts, with a rap remix featuring Kendrick Lamar. The video follows Taylor’s gang of best friends, including Karlie Kloss, Gigi Hadid, Cara Delevigne, Zendaya, Lily Aldridge, and more.

The video was very modern and clean, with so many visual effects.

Very good.
